You will soon be able to define mandatory fields in your lead form. This is particularly helpful when leads have to be entered manually and certain fields have to be filled in before the lead can, for example, be offered via a marketplace:
What will change?
a) The lead form will firmly specify the lead structure
- With the introduction of mandatory fields, the form will specify the fixed structure of a lead, which cannot be changed during lead creation and lead editing. Unlike in the past, fields of a lead can no longer be changed or removed during manual creation and editing, and new fields can no longer be added. In future, changes to the fields of a company's lead must be made under Settings - Standard Form.
- Changes to the lead form affect all leads of a company and can potentially always affect how leads on lead detail lists are displayed as the lead standard form will be used to sort and fill in the fields. This is relevant for older leads and whenever a new field is added for all leads. If a new field is added to the standard form, this field will be displayed on the lead detail page in each lead at the appropriate position (according to the sorting in the standard lead form). Existing fields of a lead are taken into account, fields with the same name are recognised and sorted:
- If a field is removed from the standard form, however, this does not result in fields of the same name being deleted from the leads.
b) The new mandatory field option
- Each field of a company's standard form can be made a mandatory field by means of the new option "Mandatory". This setting specifies how a form field should be treated when creating a lead manually and when editing it:
- The lead provider recognises mandatory fields by a small red asterisk behind the field name:
- If a field is defined as a mandatory field, the lead provider is forced to fill in the field, as otherwise it is not possible to save the lead. If he does not fill in all mandatory fields and tries to save it, he receives a message and the incorrectly validated fields are marked accordingly:
The lead can only be created/saved when all fields declared as mandatory fields have been filled in correctly.
- The following validation rules apply to the different field types:
- Exception "Lead Import" & API: It is still possible to import leads into the leadtributor without having to consider the structure of the standard form. Both the lead import and the creation of leads via the API continue to work as before. However, on the lead detail page, the standard form is applied as for manually created leads and leads created via lead import or API have to fulfil the same validation rules for mandatory fields before they can be saved.
Recommendation
Wherever possible, the standard lead form should correspond to the API form used, as fields that may be contained in the standard form but not in the lead created via the API are added to the lead. (Make also sure you use the same field names for both standard lead form and API lead form, as these are used for mapping).
When does it change?
The release is planned for February 27, 2023.
